Description
The Blue Water River Walk is a paved, shoreline path along the St. Clair River.  It is a unique location to watch freighter traffic, view the St. Clair River and enjoy the shoreline which has been restored to a more natural state thanks to the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.

The paved pedestrian path rolls along 4,300 feet of shoreline and connects to the Bridge to Bay Trail.  An elevated structure that was once used as an ferry dock provides a fun and different perspective on the river and land.

The Blue Water River Walk has been a shoreline restoration project, not only for the land, but for wildlife as well, inviting natural plants and aquatic life back to the area. What to you can expect to see along the walk:

  • The fully restored Railroad Ferry Dock dates back to the early 1900’s when it was once used to help transport goods back-and-forth to Sarnia. The Ferry Dock is now a beautiful patio overlooking the St. Clair River and passing freighters.

  • The pedestrian trail is a 10’ wide asphalt pedestrian trail along the entire length of the shoreline and part of the Bridge to Bay Trail system.

  • The outdoor classroom area at the north end of the River Walk, just north of the Ferry Dock, is as an interactive learning environment to teach the public about the St. Clair River ecosystem along with the plant and wildlife habitat found along the River Walk.

  • Beautiful sculptures, informational kiosks, benches for a rest, pebble beaches (freshwater reefs), birds, fish, butterflies and native plants along the walkway.

  • At the south end of the walk you'll find Wetlands County Park. This is a wetlands preserve with ponds and walkways.

  • An art mural tunnel is also located at the south end of the walkway.

Our newest community science project is now ready for your contributions! This photo monitoring station allows visitors to the Blue Water River Walk in Port Huron to contribute to habitat monitoring by simply snapping a photo and emailing it to the Chronolog website as directed by the  sign. Chronolog hosts these photos and creates a time lapse video that anyone can view.

Your photo helps us monitor changes in the ecosystem and the effectiveness of our shoreline restoration efforts. We encourage you to snap a photo every time you pass the station, located at the northern entrance to the Blue Water River Walk near the arch.  We are grateful to our partners, St. Clair County Parks and Recreation Commission and Rotary Club of Port Huron, for their support of this project.
