The Tip of the Thumb Heritage Water Trail extends over 139 miles along the Lake Huron Shoreline, from Lexington north around Port Sanilac and Harbor Beach, then up to the "tip of the thumb" at Port Austin, then southwest all the way to Quanicassee. 

There are 45 launch/access points from Lexington to Quanicassee.  Many interesting rock formations, caves and stacks can be found less then two miles both east and west of Port Austin's Veterans Waterfront Park and harbor area. 

Launch sites in and near Port Sanilac include Forester County Park, Port Sanilac Harbor, Horatio S. Earle Park and Walker Road Park.
