The Michigan Lighthouse Festival travels the great state of Michigan, featuring one light at a time each year. Michigan has more lighthouses than any other state (129), and Michiganders tend to follow the Michigan Lighthouse Festival joined by lighthouse enthusiasts adventuresome visitors from across the country.
In 2019, the Michigan Lighthouse Festival beam is focused on the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, managed by the Port Huron Museum. Fort Gratiot Lighthouse is the first built lighthouse in Michigan, 1825, and the second oldest on the Great Lakes. It marks the entrance to the St. Clair River from Lake Huron and built to guide the increasing traffic flow of vessels through the water way in the early 1800's.
