This sailing tradition is one of the largest fresh-water sporting events in the world and has grown into Port Huron’s greatest summer celebration! Hundreds of sailing yachts will compete in a challenging race to Mackinac Island. Sailboats begin gathering in the harbor in the days prior to the race. Thousands of sailing fans and families attend the Blue Water Fest activities surrounding the race weekend and visitors are welcome to walk the docks and view the sail boats and race preparations. On Saturday, the race from Port Huron to Mackinac Island begins! Boats begin parading out of the harbor and into Lake Huron for the starting line as early as 8am on Saturday. Great photo opportunities all morning, then enjoy the afternoon festivities and lighted boat parade that night.
